Cyrus Update

Our little boy Cyrus turns 5 this month and seems like he's changing daily.  Preschool 5 days a week seems to be tiring him out a lot -- we've been trying very hard to get our no-napper to bed early so he has energy to try new things every day.  He and Sage are best buddies right now and what is interesting is that he seeks her approval on all decisions before committing to them.  i.e. "We don't want to watch that show, right Sage?"  I'm not sure why he's doing this, but Sage does kind of run the show everywhere she goes...

He's currently doing gymnastics at the YMCA, but we'd like to get Cyrus into another activity soon to expand his horizons.  He's shown some interest in soccer, so maybe we'll give soccer a chance.  I've tried not to push him into things/activities unless he shows real interest.  He is very apprehensive in new situations and gentle nudging seems to work best rather than being too assertive.

Both Mandy and I are elated that we haven't had to think much about Crohn's disease for the last 4-5 months since starting EleCare / enteral nutrition.  In fact, we've been very quiet on our other blog about the specific carbohydrate diet because enteral nutrition has worked so well.  In a nutshell, Cyrus drank nothing but a vanilla formula for 12 weeks until his gut / stools / bloodwork were completely normal.  After that, we have gradually introduced foods while noting which ones seem to hurt him.  When it looked like things were headed off track, we'd go back on the EleCare for a few weeks to set him right.  Then, start all over introducing foods that we knew were safe.  Lately, he's befriended gummy bears and they don't seem to bug his tummy... this makes him a very happy boy!
